Davis Leads Angels to Road Doubleheader Sweep at Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. – Dominance from the circle and an explosive offensive start fueled a statement Saturday for Meredith, as the Avenging Angels swept a USA South doubleheader at Mary Baldwin. With the pair of victories, Meredith improved to 18-12 overall and 11-1 in conference action.

Game 1: Meredith 7, Mary Baldwin 1

Meredith set the tone immediately in Game 1, erupting for six runs in the top of the first inning to take early control and never look back in a 7-1 victory.

The Avenging Angels capitalized on early opportunities, combining timely hitting with aggressive baserunning to put pressure on Mary Baldwin from the opening pitch. Lillie Davis highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double, while Kaydon Roberson added a two-RBI double of her own. Laycie Eastwood contributed an RBI single, and Emilee Lewis helped spark the rally from the leadoff spot as Meredith built a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Meredith added an additional run in the third inning to extend the lead, while the defense remained steady behind strong pitching.

Davis was dominant in the circle, tossing a one-hitter over seven innings while striking out 11. She controlled the tempo throughout, limiting scoring opportunities and keeping the Fighting Squirrels off balance.

Game 2: Meredith 8, Mary Baldwin 0 (6 innings)

The Avenging Angels carried their momentum into Game 2, completing the sweep with an 8-0 shutout victory.

Meredith once again jumped ahead early, plating three runs in the first inning. Davis delivered a two-RBI single, and Roberson followed with an RBI triple to give the Angels an immediate advantage.

The offense broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on six hits. Tess Spangenburg drove in two with a single to center, Davis launched a two-run home run to left center, and Leila Slater added an RBI single to cap the inning.

Davis closed out her second dominant performance of the day with another one-hitter, striking out nine over five shutout innings. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including the home run. Roberson was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two triples and an RBI, while Emilee Lewis and Abigail Holt each contributed to the offensive pressure with strong performances at the top of the lineup.
