RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith continued its strong push through USA South play Saturday, sweeping a conference doubleheader against Southern Virginia University on its home field. The Avenging Angels delivered a balanced performance in both games to improve to 21-13 overall and remain tied for first in the league standings. The sweep also marked the 300th career victory for head coach Kim Scavone, a milestone moment for the program.
Game 1: Meredith 8, Southern Virginia 1
Meredith used a decisive third inning to take control and never looked back in the opener. After Southern Virginia pushed across a run in the top half of the third, the Avenging Angels answered with five runs in the bottom frame to swing momentum for good.
Tess Spangenburg got things started with a two-RBI single before Ashbee Standridge delivered the biggest swing of the inning—a three-run home run that quickly created separation. Meredith added to its lead in the fifth and sixth innings, finishing with 12 hits on the day.
In the circle, Lillie Davis turned in a commanding complete-game performance, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven to secure the win.
Game 2: Meredith 8, Southern Virginia 0
The Avenging Angels carried that momentum into game two, completing the sweep with an 8-0 shutout victory. Meredith plated runs in four different innings while continuing to apply pressure offensively and defensively.
The offense was steady from the start, manufacturing a run in the first before adding two more in the third. A key fifth inning helped extend the lead, and Meredith closed it out with two additional runs in the sixth.
Davis once again led the way in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout and limiting Southern Virginia to five hits while keeping the Knights off the scoreboard.
