MISENHEIMER, N.C. — In a high-energy, back-and-forth USA South Conference showdown filled with momentum swings and big-time plays, Meredith College battled Pfeiffer University in an exciting doubleheader Tuesday at Jack Ingram Field. The Avenging Angels showcased resilience and offensive firepower throughout the day, answering runs and creating opportunities in both contests. Highlighting the action was a record-breaking performance from junior first baseman Ashbee Standridge, who launched her 11th home run of the season to set a new Meredith single-season record, surpassing Arielle Stout's mark set in 2011.
Game 1: Pfeiffer 3, Meredith 2
A tightly contested opener saw both teams trade momentum throughout, with Pfeiffer edging Meredith 3-2.
Lillie Davis accounted for Meredith's early offense with a solo home run, while Haleigh Moss delivered an RBI double in the seventh to bring the Avenging Angels within one. Meredith tallied six hits in the game, including multi-hit efforts from Davis and Moss.
In the circle, Davis went the distance, allowing just five hits and three earned runs while striking out three across six innings. Despite limiting Pfeiffer's opportunities, a two-run third inning and a late insurance run proved the difference.
Game 2: Pfeiffer 9, Meredith 5
The nightcap featured an explosive start from Meredith, highlighted by Standridge's historic performance.
After launching a three-run homer in the first inning, Standridge returned in the third to crush her second home run of the game — her 11th of the season — setting a new Meredith single-season record. She finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, powering a five-run offensive effort.
Lillie Davis added to the offensive surge with her second home run of the day, a solo shot in the sixth inning, continuing her strong presence at the plate across the doubleheader.
Meredith built an early 4-1 lead behind Standridge's bat and Davis' homer, but Pfeiffer responded with a decisive middle-inning surge to take control. The Falcons collected 11 hits and capitalized on key moments to secure the 9-5 win.
