Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Secures USA South Sweep Over Methodist

RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith Softball continued their strong run through USA South Conference play on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Methodist University Monarchs at home. Behind dominant pitching, timely hitting, and standout defensive plays, Meredith improved to 16-10 overall and 9-1 in conference action, continuing a strong start to USA South play while building momentum heading into a key midweek test.

Game 1: Meredith 8, Methodist 0

Meredith wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, and once the Avenging Angels grabbed control, they never looked back.

Lillie Davis was locked in from the first pitch, navigating early traffic before settling into complete command in the circle. Davis allowed just one hit across six shutout innings while striking out five, keeping Methodist off balance all afternoon.

Offensively, Meredith played with confidence and rhythm, sparked by Mariah Bell's three-hit performance at the top of the lineup. Bell consistently put pressure on the Monarchs' defense, setting the table for a lineup that capitalized throughout the game.

The breakthrough moment came in the sixth inning when Meredith strung together a dominant five-run frame. The Avenging Angels combined aggressive baserunning with clutch hitting—highlighted by RBI contributions across the lineup—to turn a close game into a commanding one. It was the kind of inning that reflected exactly how Meredith has been playing during this conference stretch: poised, opportunistic, and relentless.

Game 2: Meredith 3, Methodist 2

Game two brought a different kind of energy—tight, gritty, and defined by execution in key moments.

Once again, Lillie Davis delivered under pressure, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs and striking out eight. When the Monarchs threatened, Davis responded with composure, shutting the door inning after inning.

Abigail Holt came up big defensively at shortstop, laying out for two diving stops that energized the team and kept Meredith in front.

At the plate, Meredith manufactured just enough offense to secure the win. In the second inning, the Avenging Angels pieced together a rally that proved to be the difference. Kaydon Roberson's aggressive baserunning sparked the inning, and later, Tess Spangenburg delivered in a big moment—drawing a bases-loaded walk that brought in what would stand as the game-winning run.

From there, Meredith leaned on its defense and pitching to finish the job, closing out a hard-fought conference victory.
