RALEIGH, N.C. – Facing the nation's top-ranked team less than 24 hours after a conference matchup, the Avenging Angels returned to action Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against #1 Virginia Wesleyan. Despite the quick turnaround, Meredith continued to compete with resilience and energy, showcasing flashes on both sides of the ball against one of NCAA Division III's premier programs.
Game 1: #1 Virginia Wesleyan 15, Meredith 1 (5 innings)
Virginia Wesleyan struck early and maintained offensive pressure throughout, scoring in each of the first three innings to build a commanding lead. The Marlins totaled 17 hits in the contest.
Meredith created an early opportunity in the first as Emilee Lewis singled and Rylee Meyer drew a walk, and broke through in the fourth when Tess Spangenburg reached and Ashbee Standridge drove in a run with a double.
In the circle, Emily Dorsey made the start, with Jammie Wrenn and Kailey Hicks combining in relief. Hicks closed the final two innings, limiting further damage as the Avenging Angels continued to compete late.
Game 2: #1 Virginia Wesleyan 13, Meredith 0 (5 innings)
In the second game of the doubleheader, Virginia Wesleyan used a seven-run third inning to create separation early. The Marlins finished with nine hits and drew six walks, applying consistent offensive pressure.
Meredith found success late in the game with back-to-back singles from Tess Spangenburg and Ashbee Standridge in the fourth inning, putting runners on base and forcing the Marlins to respond defensively.
