RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith Volleyball opened its 2026 season in style, rolling past Guilford in a 3-0 season sweep on Tuesday night inside the Weatherspoon Athletic Center.
The Avenging Angels were dominant across the first two sets, and then overcame a small deficit to win the third and final set going away to earn the sweep.
Senior
Caitlyn Russell led the way offensively for Meredith, registering 13 kills on a solid .321 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Karaleigh Dodson was a force both offensively and defensively, recording eight kills on a .500 hitting percentage while leading the team with four block assists. Freshman
Elena Bostick had a standout performance in her first game with Meredith, joining Dodson with eight kills.
Senior libero
Megan Murray was solid as usual, leading the way with 12 digs while freshman setter
Scarlet Griffin paced the squad with 12 assists in her first collegiate match.
The Avenging Angels never trailed in the first set. Although the Quakers remained within striking distance early, Meredith reeled off an 8-0 run to lead 21-12 and quickly put the first set away by a 25-15 margin.
The second set was more of the same, with Meredith racing out to a 12-6 lead early and never looking back. The Avenging Angels won five of the last six points to put an exclamation point on a dominant set that included an incredible .571 hitting percentage as a team.
Looking for the quick 3-0 sweep, Guilford did not go quietly, as they jumped out to a quick lead on MC. Trailing 14-10, Meredith began to chip away at its deficit, taking the lead at 18-17 as part of a 6-0 run that erased all doubt.
Leading 22-17, Meredith put the match away on a kill from Bostick, who ended her first career match in a Meredith uniform on a high note.
Up next, the Avenging Angels will head to Pennsylvania for the Washington & Jefferson Invitational, where they will play two matches this Friday, Sept. 4 and two more on Saturday, Sept. 5.
TURNING POINT:
- Already with a 1-0 lead, Meredith cruised in the second set with a dominant offensive display to take complete control of the match.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Russell tallied a team-high 13 kills and also added five digs.
- Dodson had a .500 hitting percentage with eight kills and four block assists.
- Bostick had the kill that ended the game, her eighth of the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Meredith hit .276 as a team while holding Guilford to a -.012 mark.
