RALEIGH, N.C. - The Avenging Angels tennis team will play on new courts this fall. The project had been in motion for a few years before Covid threw plans off track. The tennis courts were finally resurfaced last month as part of the new Athletics facility (Softball, Tennis & Golf Complex) scheduled to break ground later this summer.
Eric Douglass, Director of Strategic Giving for Athletics, had this to offer. "We are most grateful for the generous support from Meredith alumnae and friends of the tennis program, including Kim and Brad Osborne, whose daughter Ellie plays No. 1 singles for the Avenging Angels."
"Sports have the extraordinary ability to bridge divides and bring communities together," said Brad Osborne. "We are honored to support Meredith tennis and the Meredith Strong mantra for the young women who will thrive on these courts in the future."
Other contributors include the Estes-Speight family, an anonymous donor, as well as former tennis team members who sponsored a court in honor of former Meredith Athletics Director Jackie Myers. Their donations made these upgrades to the tennis facilities possible.
Douglass added, "These are exciting times for Meredith tennis and all of the Avenging Angels athletic teams."
The Tennis program doubled its wins from the previous year for this year and looks forward to continued growth in years to come.
"I am extremely grateful for the generous financial support of our alumna and donors," Athletic Director Dr. Shannon Yates said. "Avenging Angels Athletics is moving in the right direction in improving our athletics facilities and increasing our programmatic support for each of our teams. We are so blessed to have an outstanding Institutional Advancement office in conjunction with the great effort that Eric Douglas provides as our Director of Strategic Giving for Athletics."
