Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Meredith tennis team took their first
USA South conference win on the season. The Avenging Angels downed
the host Battling Bishops 5-4.
Meredith (2-0, 1-0 USA South) took the early 2-1 lead with wins at
the number two and three doubles positions. #3 Betty Edwards and
Mollie Musgrave garnered the first point for the Avenging Angels
with a 8-2 victory. #2 Alison Flanagan and Ashley Pearsall took the
second point for Meredith winning 8-6. #1 Kathryn Maples and Casey
Collins lost a close match 8-6.
In singles, positions 4, 5, and 6 proved to be the difference and
gave Meredith the win. #6 Mollie Musgrave won easily 6-1, 6-1. Both
#4 Alison Flanagan and #5 Betty Edwards fought back from early
deficits to gain wins. Flanagan won 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 and Edwards won
6-4, 6-2.
Meredith next hosts two matches on Saturday including N.C. Central
at 10 a.m. and Mary Baldwin at 2 p.m.
