Tennis Drops Close One at Methodist 5-4

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Meredith tennis team traveled to Methodist University in a rematch from last year's conference tournament final. The Monarchs took the regular season match up for the second year in a row 5-4. Meredith avenged that loss last year with the USA South conference tournament title victory.

The match started off with doubles and the Monarchs jumping out to a 2-1 lead. Alison Flanagan and Betty Edwards combined at #2 doubles for a 8-4 win for the Avenging Angels. The #1 doubles combination of Kathryn Maples and Ashley Pearsall fell 8-2 and #3 doubles of Molly Parks and Casey Collins lost 8-3.

Meredith and Methodist split the singles matches to give the Monarchs the 5-4 win. The Avenging Angels had wins at the #3 spot by Collins (7-6, 3-6, 10-4), #5 by Edwards (7-5, 3-6, 10-3) and #6 Mollie Musgrave (6-0, 6-0).

Meredith next travels to Shenandoah on Saturday and Christopher Newport on Sunday.
