Quakers Last Minute Shot Knocks off Meredith

Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. – Guilford freshman Hannah Schiltz tapped in a Gabrielle Lahowitch shot with 11.9 seconds left to give the Quakers a 2-1 victory over visiting Meredith on Thursday night.

Schiltz's first college score capped a quickly developing play as Guilford rushed to beat the final horn. With Meredith pressing forward, Guilford's Jaclyn Nucci won a ball near midfield and fed it ahead to Lahowitch. The junior carried the ball into the box and slotted a shot just beyond Meredith keeper Kelsey Hopper, which Schiltz tapped in from one yard out near the corner of the goal.

The Avenging Angels (0-1) took a 1-0 lead midway through the second half when rookie Rachel Didier headed in a long cross from Carrie Talbert in the 62nd minute.

The Quakers (1-0) tied the game just over two minutes later when Lahowitch placed a penalty kick in the goal's bottom right corner after a Meredith handball in the box.

The Avenging Angels outshot Guilford, 12-8, but had few serious threats. Senior goalies Kat Adams and Amy Baker both made two saves in 45 minutes of work for Guilford. Meredith's Hopper finished with three stops.

Meredith next hosts the Meredith College Classic this weekend.  The Avenging Angels play Salem College Saturday and the University of Rutgers-Newark on Sunday, both are 1 p.m. starts.  The other matches features Guilford against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday and Salem on Sunday, both are 3:15 p.m. starts.
