Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith soccer squad picked up a 4-1 non-conference win over the Quakers of Guilford tonight under the lights at the Meredith Athletic Field.
The teams were even in shots, corners, and saves, but the Avenging Angels managed to find the back of the net three additional times to earn the victory.
Meredith opened the match with two quick offensive opportunities for Jessie Davis on corner kicks. With help from Kimberly Williams, Davis finally found the outside corner of the net in the 32nd minute to put Meredith on the board.
Freshman Taylor Brown knocked in another at 43:38 to give the Avenging Angels a 2-0 lead at the intermission. Brown was assisted by Rachel Didier and Nelson Reames on the play.
Megan Luke pitched assists to Didier and Brown to push the lead to four with just under 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Quakers' Kelli Uresti completed the scoring with a goal on Meredith goalie Margarett Wyatt in the final nine minutes of play.
Junior goalie Kelsey Hopper tallied five saves in 70 minutes of play for the hosts. Guilford's keeper Cori Karoly grabbed six in the loss. Davis earned one goal in five shots to lead the attack from the Avenging Angels.
Meredith hits the road this weekend for pairings with the Methodist Monarchs Friday at 4:00 p.m. in USA South play followed by Randolph College in non-league action Sunday afternoon.
