Tennis Sweeps Squirrels for Second USA South Win

Raleigh, N.C. -  The Meredith tennis team moved to 2-0 in USA South conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin on Saturday.  Meredith (8-3, 2-0 USA South) only lost a total of five games on the days.

The Avenging Angels started the match with three 8-0 sweeps in doubles.  #1 Puja Patel/Caroline Hunt, #2 Ashley Pearsall/Mary Lawrence Newton and #3 Cheslie Packer/Mariam Cooper all took the straight set wins.

In singles, Meredith continued their dominance of the Fighting Squirrels (0-3, 0-2).  #1 Patel won (6-0, 6-0) while #2 Hunt took her match (6-2, 6-0).  Other victories were by #3 Pearsall (6-0, 6-2), #4 Betty Edwards (6-0, 6-0), #5 Mollie Musgrave (6-0, default) and #6 Meg Crumpton (6-1, 6-0).

Meredith next plays at Methodist on Wednesday in a USA South rematch of the 2011 conference tournament finals.
