Tennis Overtakes Captains in 6-3 Win

Newport News, Va. - The Meredith tennis team completed a USA South sweep over the weekend with a 6-3 win over Christopher Newport on Sunday. The Avenging Angels remain undefeated in conference play with the win.

Meredith took the early 3-0 lead after a sweep in doubles play. The #1 pairing of Puja Patel/Caroline Hunt won 8-1, #2 Mary Lawrence Newton/Betty Edwards took the 8-5 win and #3 Mollie Musgrave/Ashley Pearsall won 8-3.

In singles, Meredith split the matches to take the 6-3 match win. The Avenging Angels were led with wins by #1 Patel 6-3, 6-1, #5 Edwards 6-1, 6-1 and #6 Musgrave 6-1, 6-3.

Coming into the weekend Meredith (10-3, 4-0 USA South) was ranked #13 in the region while the Captains (8-3, 3-1) were #15.

Meredith returns to action on Tuesday as they host Greensboro at 2:30 p.m. in a conference match up.
