Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist University goal in the 10th minute of Wednesday's USA South soccer match held on for the gamewinner as the Monarchs upset Meredith 1-0.
The Avenging Angels outshot the Monarchs 9-3 in the first period and led the game with seven corner kicks to MU's one. But Meredith failed to score and posted their third loss in four games.
MC's Jessie Davis shot a game-high five goals with four on goal, and defender Megan Luke contributed four of the team's 15 total attempts, including a pair on goal.
Monarch goalie Taylor Ross earned her third win on the season with eight saves, while Avenging Angel Kelsey Hopper posted five saves in the loss.
Meredith hosts USA South foe Averett University Saturday in a 1 p.m. start. The Cougars scored a last minute goal in the 2012 semifinals to steal Meredith's chance at a title game, and AU went on to secure the league championship.
