Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Meredith College soccer team defeated N.C. Wesleyan 3-1 in today's final regular season pairing and secured a fifth-place seed in the USA South tournament. The Avenging Angels travel to Methodist University Saturday, November 2, for round one.
Today's afternoon pairing opened with a quick score from the host Bishops at 6:24. Leading attacker Logan Bill edged out Meredith goalie Kelsey Hopper to reach the net.
The Avenging Angels countered in the 15th minute on a free kick from Jessie Davis. Christa Jackson finished the play on a header into the pocket to tie the match at ones.
Just before the intermission, Davis recorded another assist to help Megan Amanatides score her third goal on the season.
To close out the scoring 10 minutes into the second period, rookie Ellice Johnson drilled her first touch into the net off a pass from Amanatides.
Hopper secured three saves in the win, and Bishops keeper Haley Hopkins tallied two.
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal round in Fayetteville will face the winner of the #1 Maryville/#8 LaGrange match. For the fifth consecutive year, the semifinal and championship rounds will be played at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia.
