Soccer Secures Spot in USA South Semis with OT Win at Methodist

Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Meredith College women's soccer team advanced to the USA South semifinal round Saturday with a 1-0 overtime win at Methodist. Senior Jessie Davis clinched the victory two minutes and twenty seconds into the extra period to move the Avenging Angels forward.

The Monarchs outshot Meredith 12-5 and tallied an extra corner kick, but the Avenging Angels posted the only goal of the match.

After a scoreless 90 minutes, the teams hit the field again for an extra period. Davis intercepted a defensive pass, settled the ball and launched a 30-yard shot into the far, upper corner of the net. The game winner was Davis' 34th career goal and seventh on the season.

Senior goalie Kelsey Hopper tallied four saves in her 11th win this fall.

Meredith will face Saturday's 5 p.m. quarterfinal winner between #1 Maryville and #8 Lagrange. Both the semifinal and championship rounds will be played at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia, for the fifth consecutive year.
