Tennis Falls 6-3 to Captains in Conference Semifinals

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The #3-seed Meredith Avenging Angels (9-3) suffered a 6-3 loss to second-seeded Christopher Newport (17-6) in Saturday's semifinal round of the USA South Conference Championships. The Captains will face Methodist University, the top-seed this weekend and the defending champion, at 10 a.m. Sunday for the league title.

CNU swept the doubles competition to take an early 3-0 advantage in today's pairing.

Senior Betty Edwards gave Meredith their first point in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at no. 4 singles. Conference Player of the Year Puja Patel added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kim Morrissett at no. 1 before the Captains clinched the match with wins over Caroline Hunt at no. 2 and Mollie Musgrave at no. 5.

Rookie Taylor Brennan put up a fight at the no. 6 spot taking the opening set 6-4. CNU's Angela Stallman recovered to claim set two 6-1 and sealed the win on a 10-7 tiebreaker.
