Box Score STAUNTON, Va. - The Meredith College (2-1-3) soccer squad defeated Mary Baldwin (4-1) 6-1 in today's USA South conference opener.
To start the scoring, rookie Meghan Ingram netted her first career goal in the 13th minute of the game. Sarah Varnell logged her third assist of the season on the play.
Christa Jackson rebounded a block off the goalie to score her first career goal at Meredith four minutes later to give the Avenging Angels an early 2-0 lead.
Jessie Davis added her third goal on the season and rookie Brittany LaRussa sent Meredith into the half up by four thanks to help from teammate Danielle Lee.
Early in the second frame, Lee posted her third goal this season to share a team-high three goals with Davis on the year.
Samantha Siomkos netted their first career goal to wrap up the scoring for the Avenging Angels in the 73rd minute of the game.
Each of Meredith's healthy goalies recorded minutes in tonight's victory. Veterans Kelsey Hopper and Sara McCaw picked up one save apiece, and rookie Brook Verburg logged 6:28 to close out regulation.
Mary Baldwin's Lauren Dawson posted the Squirrels loan goal in the 84th minute of the match.
