Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Va. - Meredith College evened today's opening match with a 25-23 set-two victory versus the Otterbein Cardinals, ranked 14th nationally, but would eventually drop two all day. Rookie Karlie Long was selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Avenging Angels lost to OU in four with set scores of 16-25, 25-23, 13-25, 18-25. The Cardinals remain 8-0 on the year after defeating No. 5 Christopher Newport 3-1 in Friday's action.
Former USA South stronghold, CNU pounded Meredith on .406 hitting and defended any offensive pressure from the Avenging Angels to capture a 3-0 win (25-7, 25-9, 25-12).
In a double-double performance versus Otterbein, senior setter Anna Hayes dished out 18 assists and tallied 16 digs and helped Long to 11 kills to lead the Meredith offense. Katelyn Rall and Emily Hendricks combined for as many kills to support the effort.
The Captains controlled the pace in Meredith's second match on the day and took care of the Avenging Angels with ease.
Long managed five kills and Hayes connected for eight assists in the loss.
The Avenging Angels return to Weatherspoon Tuesday in non-conference action with the Knight's of St. Andrews. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
