Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -Today's final contest of the Meredith College Soccer Classic between the host Avenging Angels and Salem College ended in a 1-1 draw.
Senior forward Jessie Davis, a member of the All-Tournament team, scored today's first goal in the eighth minute of the second period. But with just 12:08 remaining in regulation, Salem pushed past the Meredith defense to tie the game.
A handball called on defender Megan Luke just outside the box with 4:30 left on the clock gave Salem a close attempt at the net and a chance to capture the match. The ball slipped through the wall of Meredith defenders only to land in the hands of Meredith keeper Sara McCaw to send the match into overtime.
The Avenging Angels controlled the first extra period, out-shooting Salem 6-0. But a pair of saves from Spirit goalie Paige Ketchum combined with a trio of wide attempts sent the game into a second overtime.
Meredith McCarty made a pass at the net late in the extra period, but a Ketchum save ended the match in a draw.
McCaw and Ketchum each tallied five saves in the game.
Meredith hosts Randolph College Wednesday, September 11, back at the turf athletic field. First kick is slated for 6 p.m.
