Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - The Meredith College soccer team picked up their ninth consecutive win with a 3-0 shutout over the Averett Cougars. The perfect 9-0 conference record keeps the Avenging Angels at the top of the USA South with just three matches remaining in the regular season.
Meredith rookie goalie Jaisa Loch recorded her seventh career shutout with three stops versus the Cougars, and AU's Kim Josephson recorded her third loss with nine saves on the day.
MC's leading scorer Meredith McCarty netted the only first half goal with an unassisted score in the 19th minute of the match. The goal marks her ninth of the season.
After the break the Avenging Angels returned to the field with relentless offensive effort. Senior Anna Smither recovered her blocked attempt to give Meredith a two-point lead just five minutes into the second period.
In the 81st minute of the match, Rachel Didier set Danielle Lee in motion for the third and final score of the match.
The Avenging Angels outshot Averett 24-to-8 with five opportunities from the corner. Meredith leads the league with 59 corner kicks this season.
Meredith travels to Fayetteville Tuesday, Oct. 21, to make up last week's rained out contest. First kick is slated for 4 p.m. versus the Methodist Monarchs.
