RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College split the 2014 USA South Women's Soccer Regular Season Championship with the Piedmont Lions after finishing in a 0-0 double-overtime draw with visiting N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday night. The Avenging Angels earned the top seed in the conference tournament heading into Saturday's quarterfinals.

As the #1 seed, Meredith will host eighth-seeded Averett Saturday, Nov. 1, at 2:30 p.m. on their home turf (*gate admission will be charged). The winner will advance to the semifinals set for Friday, Nov. 7, at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia.

Prior to the start of tonight's game, Head Coach Paul Smith and his staff recognized eight senior Angels: Megan Amanatides, Rachel Didier, Danielle Lee, Christa Jackson, Robin Moore, Nelson Reames, Anna Smither and Sarah Varnell.

After the senior recognition, officials jumped right into the match as the rain fell in sheets across the turf. With the first 45 minutes played in pouring rain, neither team managed more than two attempts at the goal.

The Avenging Angels revved up the attack in the second half with eight shots to the Bishops' two, and six Meredith corner kicks proved fruitless.

Defenders Smither, Megan Luke and Jamison Kidd managed to keep the ball away from the box, and Jaisa Loch picked up three stops to close down Wesleyan's offense for good.

Loch recorded her second tie of the season, and N.C. Wesleyan's Sarah Hovis recorded seven saves in her 110 minutes played.

*Per USA South bylaws, fans will be charged a gate admission at Saturday's contest. Faculty, staff, students, seniors and children will pay $3, and general adult admission will be $6.
