RALEIGH, N.C. - With rain on the way, Friday's USA South tennis match between Meredith College and William Peace was moved up to a 2:30 p.m. start. The Avenging Angels captured five singles wins to claim the win just before the rain fell hard enough to suspend play.
Sophomore Mack Thompson took care of No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 to give Meredith their fifth point for the win.
No. 1 player Puja Patel swept Zoe Littmann in straight sets to start off the scoring. Caroline Hunt followed at No. 2, defeating Kristen Edwards 6-1, 6-0. Cailin Goff and Taylor Brennan posted perfect scores at four and five.
Leading 1-0 after the first set, senior Mary Lawrence Newton was forced to suspend her match midway through the second set.
The Avenging Angels travel to Fayetteville Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. duel with conference foe Methodist University. Both teams boast an unblemished league record.
