LAGRANGE, Ga. - After a scoreless first half, the Meredith College soccer team netted three goals to secure a 3-0 win over the LaGrange Panthers in Sunday's USA South action. Rookie's Katherine Welsh and Alexis Healey scored their first collegiate goals in the win.

The Avenging Angels capped off the opening weekend of conference play outshooting the Panthers 14-3. Danielle Lee and Meredith McCarty controlled a combined seven of those shots with both veterans recording an assist apiece to outlast LaGrange.

Lee assisted Welsh just 7:31 into the second period to open the scoring on the day.

Cassie Padilla drilled one high of the goal in the sixtieth minute, and the crossbar interfered with McCarty's shot two minutes later to hold off the Angels.

Anna Smither scored her first goal of the season and sixth of her career with help from McCarty's second assist on the year to extend the Meredith lead to two.

Healey subbed into the game in the 69th minute and netted Meredith's third score less than five minutes later to secure the win for the Angels. Christa Jackson posted her third season assist on the play.

Jaisa Loch recorded her fourth win on the season with two stops in her 90 minutes played. LaGrange's Courtney Slauson took the loss with four saves.

Meredith hosts a USA South doubleheader next weekend beginning with the Piedmont Lions Friday, Sept. 26, at 4:30 p.m. The Avenging Angels will challenge the Covenant Scots Saturday afternoon on home turf. Follow both games via live stats and video/audio coverage.
