RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith McCarty scored two first-half goals as the Meredith Avenging Angels defeated Covenant College 3-1 in Sunday's USA South action. Megan Amanatides netted MC's third point to finish off the win.

Meredith maintains a perfect 4-0 conference record, along with USA South foe Maryville College. The Angels and Scots face off Friday, October 10, during the college's fall break.

In the 16th minute of play, McCarty accepted a cross from Olivia DeBellis to drive in the first score for the Avenging Angels. Just a few minutes later, Rachel Didier set McCarty up once more to give Meredith a two-goal lead heading into the half.

After attempts from DeBellis and Meghan Ingram failed to cross the line, Amanatides landed one in the left corner of the box to give Meredith a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute. McCarty crossed a pass through the middle to Amanatides, who sailed the ball past the keeper for the goal.

The Angels' defense held on through the next 20 minutes before Covenant's Rachel Bernard slipped one just past the outstretched fingertips of MC keeper Jaisa Loch to prevent the shutout. The Scots Ruth Terry assisted on the play.

Loch notched one save in her sixth win, and Lucy Johnson recorded four stops in the loss for Covenant.

The Avenging Angels continue with their five-game home series playing host to Mary Baldwin Wednesday, Oct. 1. First kick is slated for 4 p.m. on the Meredith turf.
