RALEIGH, N.C.- The Meredith College Avenging Angels extended their winning streak to seven Saturday as they shut out the Averett Cougars 2-0. Keeper Jaisa Loch tallied four saves in goal as she recorded her fifth perfect game of the season.

Meredith controlled possession in the attacking third of the field for much of the game, which ultimately gave the forwards opportunities to score.

The match opened with a quick pace of play in the midfield. Cassie Padilla and Ellice Johnson took control of the midfield halfway through the period, and Olivia DeBellis burned past her defender on multiple occasions to create chances for the Angel forwards.

Meredith broke through twenty minutes into the match as Meredith McCarty drove the ball past outstretched Cougar goalie Iriana Ventura to put the Angels on the board 1-0 off of a Kirstie King assist.

The second half began with a much more physical game from the visitors. Averett's Ventura played well in goal as she held off the Meredith forwards coming out of the break.

Meredith's leading scorer Jessica Wallace scored her 11th goal of the season off a well-placed pass from McCarty in the 58th minute. Led by Megan Luke and King, the Avenging Angels defense shut down the Cougars' offense the rest of the to secure the win.

Meredith outshot Averett 34-6 with 15 corner kicks to just one for the Cougars.

Annalise Jobsis led the Cougars as she took two shots in the first half, and Ventura tallid eight saves in her second loss of the season.

The Avenging Angels return to action next Saturday, Oct. 24, as they host conference foe Mary Baldwin College at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for October 3 in Virginia. Follow the action live HERE.
