Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College Avenging Angels soccer team downed Ferrum College 4-0 on senior day to maintain their undefeated conference record. With this win Meredith clinched the USA South Regular Season title and the number one overall seed in the conference tournament which is set to begin next weekend. The Angels offense was on display as four different players recorded goals in the game.
Meredith honored the four-year career of senior defender Megan Luke just before the game. Luke has played the most minutes of any player in program history in 78 games played. She has also recorded six career goals and ten assists from the defensive end.
The game began at a fast pace in midfield that quickly turned into attacking chances for the Angels. Luke had a great chance in the eighth minute as she launched a shot from a 30 yard free kick that hit the crossbar.
Leading scorer Jessica Wallace tallied her 14th goal of the year minutes later from a Meredith McCarty flick pass into the box. The Angels midfield dominated possession as they controlled the ball in the Ferrum half of the field for the remainder of the period.
Savanah Rollinson finished off a cross from Olivia DeBellis with a perfect header into the goal in the 27th minute. DeBellis dribbled from midfield into the box to send in the pass. Meredith's defense shut down the Panthers as the visitors did not attempt a shot in the first 45 minutes of play.
Ferrum turned up the offensive pressure in the second frame to record a pair of shots, but the effort fell short. Meredith added two more goals down the stretch from Alex Crow and Celena Greer to finish off the Panthers.
The Angels outshot Ferrum 24-2 and attempted ten corner kicks to none for the Panthers. Meredith's defense recorded their fifth consecutive shut out and eleventh on the year.
Jaisa Loch and Brook Verburg combined for the shutout in goal and Loch moved to 13-4 on the season. Chelsea Wingate took the loss for the Panthers as she tallied four saves in goal.
The Angels return to action Wednesday as they travel to N.C. Wesleyan College for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Follow the action live HERE.
