RALEIGH, N.C. -- The number one seeded Meredith College soccer team topped the eighth-seeded Ferrum Panthers Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the USA South Conference Tournament. The Avenging Angels will face off with fourth-seeded Methodist in the second round.

The semifinals and championship rounds move to Meredith beginning Friday, Nov. 6. Second-seeded Piedmont will play third-seeded Maryville at 11:30 a.m., with the Angels and Monarchs kicking off at 2:30 p.m. on the Meredith turf. Winners advance to the title match Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m.

Junior Ellice Johnson netter her third season goal in the 85th minute of today's tournament action to move the Angels to the next round. Jessica Wallace assisted on the play.

Meredith created plenty of offensive opportunities during the match, outshooting the Panthers 16-4, but Johnson's score would be the only one necessary. Jaisa Loch recorded her 14th win in goal for the Angels recording one save on the day.

Ferrum's Chelsea Wingate took the loss for the visitors with five saves in the box, including four in the second half.
