DANVILLE, Va. - The Meredith College tennis team eased past the Averett Cougars on a 9-0 sweep Saturday in USA South action. The Avenging Angels gave up just 10 games en route to a victory.
Back to a full squad, Caroline Hunt and Cailin Goff defeated the no. 2 doubles pair Jessie Gomes and Melissa Sanchez 8-0. Dropping just one point at no. 1 doubles, Catherine Bryant and Ran Zhang defeated Hannah Mattson and Katie Abelseth 8-1, and Mack Thompson and Jacqueline Benton capped off doubles play with an 8-2 performance at no. 3 to give Meredith a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Zhang and Benton finished off their opponents with a pair of perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins at no. 2 and no. 6 singles, respectively, to lead Meredith to their second USA South win on the season.
The Avenging Angels cap off the USA South weekend doubleheader at William Peace University Sunday afternoon. Doubles play is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
