DEMOREST, Ga. - The Meredith tennis squad swept singles play to down the Piedmont Lions 7-2 in Saturday's USA South road contest. Catherine Bryant and Ran Zhang picked up an 8-4 win as the only doubles victory on the day.
Bryant posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Christian Wade, and Zhang opened with a 6-0 first-set lead at no. 2 singles before finishing off Amanda Blackwell 6-2 in the second. Cailin Goff and Mack Thompson followed suit at no. 3 and no. 4 with a 6-0 set-one lead before claiming two more wins for Meredith.
At no. 6 singles Jacqueline Benton fought for a 7-2 tiebreaker to win her first set and crusied to a 6-2 set-two finish for the win. Caroline Hunt rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Nicole Parrish at no. 3.
The Avenging Angels host the Salem Spirits in a 2 p.m. non-conference match Sunday.
