Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - Four Meredith College lacrosse seniors left their home turf in style by leading the Avenging Angels to a 16-4 win over the visiting Ferrum Panthers in Saturday's USA South action. Senior goalie Griffin Hewett earned her first collegiate win in goal for Meredith collecting a pair of saves.
With commentary by Athletic Director Jackie Myers, Head Coach Lauren Scott, her staff and the Avenging Angels gave tribute to seniors Hewett, Danielle Lee, Lottie Meadows and Taylor Pearce prior to the opening draw.
The Angels never trailed during today's 60 minutes of play as Meredith opened up with a 2-0 lead during the first four minutes on back-to-back goals from Jennifer Halvorson. Ferrum quickly followed with a winner from Shannon Brown to put the Panthers on the board, but Meredith dominated the offense through the remainder of the half to carry a 12-3 lead into the break.
Four different Angels netted a goal in the second period as Meredith cruised to their third conference victory.
Lee led Meredith with seven points on four goals, three assists and seven groundballs, while rookie Carlee Joseph add four goals of her own to go along with one assist and five groundballs. Meadows and Alison Reisert added two goals, one assist, apiece, and Victoria Doyle tallied five draw controls with one goal. Cameron Ruffin and Hewett notched four groundballs apiece, and Katie Sills secured four draw controls on the day.
Brown led the Panthers with three goals and six groundballs. Keeper Graceanne Gershner took the loss for Ferrum logging 17:24 in goal, and Amanda Cheney entered at the midpoint of the first period to record a dozen saves through the remaining 42:36.
The Avenging Angels hit the road for back-to-back USA South matches next week, beginning with the Greensboro Pride Tuesday, followed by Methodist Thursday.
