Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Avenging Angels claimed their second win of the Meredith Classic with a 4-0 shutout over Agnes Scott College. Kirstie King and Megan Luke led the Meredith defense and diffused any evidence of an attack from the Scotties.
The Angels attacked early as Luke, Jessica Wallace, and Cassie Padilla each scored in the first 15 minutes of play. Luke slipped her third goal of the season past the defense on a free kick from just outside the box. Wallace continued her strong start to the season scoring her first goal for Meredith on a breakaway.
Just before the break freshman Savanah Rollinson notched her first goal of the season with an assist from fellow freshman Celena Greer.
Led by Caitlynn Croft and Morgan Hoel, the Scotties came out of the break determined to push the pace and create offensive opportunities. But Meredith's defensive line shut down the attack to keep the Scotties from scoring.
The Avenging Angels outshot the Scotties 16-8 with four corners to Agnes Scott's one. Jaisa Loch, Brook Verburg, and Kat Pike combined for a shutout with a five saves.
Salem College capped off the Meredith Classic with a 10-0 victory over Hollins.
MC returns to action next weekend as they travel to the Washington and Lee Tournament in Lexington, Virginia. The Angels will take on Bridgewater on Saturday before playing the host Generals Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 2p.m. Follow the action live HERE.
