WILSON, N.C. -- Thursday afternoon's non-conference match at Barton College ended in a 5-4 loss for the Meredith College Avenging Angels. Ran Zhang won both of her matches to hold an 8-4 record on the season with a perfect 4-0 since the team opened the spring schedule.

Zhang paired with Catherine Bryant to defeat Smiljana Kljajic and Vanessa Sanoja 8-4 at no. 1 doubles before holding on for a three-set win over Sanoja at no. 2 singles.

No. 2 doubes pair Laura Anne Hatcher and Jacqueline Benton collected an 8-4 victory to give the Angels a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. But Kate DeSilva delivered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Barton's Casey Utley at no. 5 singles as the team's fourth and final point on the day.

Meredith opens the USA South schedule Saturday playing host to the Piedmont Lions. Doubles play is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
