RALEIGH, N.C. -- With a 6-3 victory over the visiting Piedmont Lions, the Meredith College tennis Angels collected their first USA South win on the season.
The Avenging Angels swept doubles to hold a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. No. 1 Catherine Bryant and no. 2 Ran Zhang led with a pair of two-set victories. Bryant won 6-3, 6-3, and Zhang dropped just one game in her match.
Emily Wilkinson battled through a first set tiebreaker at no. 6 singles but dropped her second set 6-1. Wilkinson recovered and lost just two points in the 10-2 third set to claim her first career conference win.
The Angels host N.C. Wesleyan Monday, Feb. 29 in a league match. Doubles are set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
