DECATUR, Ga. -- The Meredith College tennis team opened a three-match weekend with a 7-2 victory over the Agnes Scott Scotties Friday afternoon. ASC will join the conference next year as a competing member of the USA South along with Salem and Wesleyan (Ga.)
Meredith opened with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play with Cailin Goff and Laura Anne Hatcher pairing at no. 2 for an 8-6 win over Anastasia Bennett and Magdalena Wimmier. The shift moved Emily Wilkinson to no. 3 with Kate DeSilva, and the pair finished the Scotties 8-5.
The Angels returned to their traditional lineup for singles, and Ran Zhang kept her winning streak alive with a two-set win at no. 2. Goff secured the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at no. 4, and DeSilva and Catherine Bryant spread the gap with two more victories.
The Angels travel to Montgomery, Ala. next for a 1 p.m. match Saturday with the Huntingdon Hawks and close out the league doubleheader Sunday at LaGrange.
