RALEIGH, N.C. -- In Wednesday afternoon's USA South action, the Meredith College tennis Angels cruised to a 9-0 sweep over host William Peace. Meredith improved to 5-2 in the league, and the Pacers dropped to 2-6.
Cailin Goff and Jacqueline Benton led the charge at no. 1 doubles dropping just one game. At no. 3 doubles freshman duo Emily Wilkinson and Sandra Taranhike finished off Hannah Philbeck and Anna Grace Wyneken 8-0, and Laura Anne Hatcher and Kate DeSilva gave the Angels a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
Ran Zhang kept her winning streak alive with her 20th consecutive victory on a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at no. 1 singles. Goff, Hatcher, and Benton shifted up one spot, and Wilkinson and Sarah Du Bose rounded out the top six for the conference win.
The Avenging Angels host Covenant College Saturday morning in a 1 p.m. start. The Scots are tied for second with N.C. Wesleyan in league standings, and Meredith ranks sixth for now.
