Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer team wrapped up the Guilford/Salem Classic Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Guilford. Jessica Wallace scored three in the first half to secure the win for the Avenging Angels.
Wallace scored first in the ninth minute of play. In the 15th minute freshman Hannah Elvington rebounded a shot from Ellice Johnson that deflected off the post to give the Angels a 2-0 advantage.
At 22:03 Meredith McCarty sailed a corner kick that led to a Wallace goal for a three-point lead. Samantha Litt assisted on the play as well. Two minutes later, Wallace recovered her own saved attempt to send Meredith into the break up by four.
The Quakers finally reached the back of the box in the 66th minute of the match, but Meredith rookie Kayla Boudreau drove in two more goals to finish off Guilford for good.
Jaisa Loch recorded her 28th career win and first of the season to edge closer to alumnae goalie Kelsey Hopper's all-time record of 31. Kat Pike entered the goal for Meredith at the top of the second period, and Brooke Verburg took over the duty with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Guilford's Maggie Albert recorded the loss for the Quakers.
The Angels open the USA South schedule next weekend at WakeMed Soccer Park versus William Peace University. The first kick is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday.
