Box Score CARY, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer Angels opened the USA South campaign Saturday with a 2-0 victory over host William Peace University. All eight members of the East division (formerly the North) competed today with Averett, Methodist, and N.C. Wesleyan also winning.
The Avenging Angels outpaced the WPU offense with 27 shots to just one from the hosts. Goalie Jaisa Loch deflected the one shot from Pacer Amelia Melching to keep the William Peace off the board.
Meredith McCarty scored her first goal of the season with an unassisted game winner in the first four minutes of play at the nearby WakeMed Soccer Park. Rookie Hannah Elvington finished off a pass from Ellice Johnson in the 67th minute to put the Pacers out of reach for good.
Loch remained in goal just over 71 minutes to earn her second win on the season, and Kat Pike stepped in to close out the final 18:39 of the match.
WPU keeper Shannon Maddex recorded her fourth loss with 12 saves on the day.
