Elvington Shot Finishes Off Averett 2-0

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Meredith College soccer team collected their fourth USA South victory with a 2-0 finish over the host Averett Cougars Sunday afternoon. Hannah Elvington's late goal secured the win for the Avenging Angels.

In spite of 33 attempts, Elvington's unassisted goal in the 83rd minute was Meredith's only shot to reach the box. An own goal from the Cougars two minutes earlier was the first point on the day.

The Cougars logged just four attempts with Meredith keeper Jaisa Loch stopping the only one headed for the net to secure the shutout. The rest of the Cougars defended against 15 Angel corner kicks to keep Meredith away from the net.

The Avenging Angels host a midweek doubleheader beginning with a make-up match versus N.C. Wesleyan Tuesday, followed by Senior Night Wednesday versus Pfeiffer. Both matches are slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Follow the live action HERE.
