RALEIGH, N.C. -- In Tuesday's non-conference action, the visiting NCAA Division II Barton Bulldogs shut out the Meredith College tennis squad 9-0.

The top two doubles pairs earned a game apiece, but the Bulldogs quickly handled the Angels 3-0 heading into singles.

Rookie Gillian Emerson battled back from a 6-1 set one loss at No. 3 singles to force her second frame to a 6-4 decision. Cailin Goff won three games at No. 1 singles before Barton's Daria Avram finished off the win 6-0.

Jacqueline Benton returned to the court today for the first time this spring and fought for three games in a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 4. Sandra Taranhike earned a point in each of her sets versus Dana Kelly at No. 6 singles.

Sarah Du Bose and Alice Cox Horton stepped onto the court at No. 4 doubles and represented the Avenging Angels in a pair of singles matches to close out the day.
