RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the visiting NCAA Division II Chowan Hawks, who ranked sixth in the latest Oracle/ITA Atlantic Region collegiate poll.

No. 2 doubles pair Gillian Emerson and Jacqueline Benton pushed their match to an 8-5 finish, and Emerson battled at No. 3 singles for a 6-3, 6-1 loss.

At No. 2 singles Laura Anne Hatcher closed out the match winning three games versus a tough opponent in Victori Smolchenkova.

The Avenging Angels return to action in March 7 Orlando, Florida, during a spring break trip. All three matches will take place on the USTA National Campus.
