Tennis Splits Doubleheader on the Road with 9-0 Win at Baldwin, 9-0 Loss to Jackets

STAUNTON, Va. -- The Meredith College tennis Avenging Angels earned their first win of the season this afternoon at the USA South's Mary Baldwin, 9-0. The team followed with a 9-0 loss to Randolph Macon in non-conference play.

The Angels opened the day dropping just one game in doubles action at Mary Baldwin. Jacqueline Benton led Meredith at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Esperanza Cadena. Sandra Taranhike, Emily Wilkinson, and Sarah Du Bose dropped just one point in each of their second sets to close out for the win.

vs. Randolph Macon
Cailin Goff and Benton battled for an 8-4 loss at No. 1 doubles versus the Yellow Jackets, and Gillian Emerson and Wilkinson picked up three points at No. 2.

Rookie Alice Cox Horton traded places with Du Bose at Randolph-Macon in her first singles action since January.

The Avenging Angels push through their six remaining regular season conference matches beginning with Methodist at home next Thursday. Doubles play is set for a 3 p.m. start.
