RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College tennis team dropped a 9-0 match to the USA South's top-ranked Methodist Monarchs Thursday afternoon.
Avenging Angel Cailin Goff put forth the strongest battle for Meredith with a 6-4, 6-4 effort at No. 1 singles versus Ashton Walker. Goff partnered with Jacqueline Benton at No. 1 for an 8-3 loss versus Monarchs Jenna Landis and Sam Munze in a tougher pairing than the score indicates.
Benton garnered five games from Munze at No. 3 singles, and Sandra Taranhike battled back from a 6-1 set-one loss to pull three games from her opponent in the fourth spot.
Alice Cox Horton and Kassidy Pitchford managed one game at No. 3 doubles in just their second match together this season.
The Avenging Angels return to their home court Saturday for a league doubleheader beginning with Ferrum College at 10 a.m. Just prior to a 3 p.m. pairing versus the Greensboro Pride, Head Coach Meredith Vincent will recognize her three seniors, Goff, Sarah Du Bose, and Laura Anne Hatcher.
