Taranhike Wins Singles in 8-1 Loss Saint Benedict

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Meredith College tennis team wrapped up a tough spring break series Thursday at the USTA's new National Campus with an 8-1 loss to the College of Saint Benedict. Sandra Taranhike claimed the lone point for the Avenging Angels with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Blazers at no. 4 singles.

Laura Anne Hatcher and Gillian Emerson fought hard but lost 8-6 at the top doubles spot, and Jacqueline Benton with partner Emily Wilkinson fell 8-3 at no. 2.

Rookie Emerson continues to challenge her opponents this spring and pushed CSB's Erin Kolbow to a set-two tiebreaker at no. 2 singles. Benton battled at the third spot in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.

The Avenging Angels return to North Carolina this week and will enjoy an eleven-day break before opening the USA South schedule at home March 21 versus N.C. Wesleyan. The Bishops were selected as the East Division runner-up in the preseason coaches poll.
