RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer team downed the visiting Greensboro Pride 2-0 in Saturday's USA South Conference opener. Kirstie King and Jessica Wallace scored a pair of unassisted goals to finish with a win.
Late in the first period King sailed a free kick into the far corner of the box from 30 yards out to give the Avenging Angels a 1-0 advantage heading into the break. Wallace beat out her defender in the 65th minute for a running goal 10 yards off the line to secure the win.
Olivia DeBellis, Samantha Litt, Katie Quinn, and Lainey Nicholson worked Greensboro on the wing with Cassie Padilla and the defensive backs supporting down the center lane.
The teams posted an even four corner kicks apiece, and the Angels recorded eight attempts at the goal versus five from the Pride for a fairly quiet battle on the turf.
Meredith's senior keeper Jaisa Loch notched a pair of saves for her fourth win on the season and 42nd over four years. Greensboro's starting goalie Brittany Morrison took the loss for the visitors with two stops. Her teammate Marisa Camuto entered the match in the 40th minute to finish out the clock with a pair of saves.
