Soccer Team Effort Leads to 7-0 Victory Over Wildcats

RALEIGH, N.C. -- In Tuesday's non-conference soccer match versus visiting Johnson & Wales University (N.C.), Meredith College secured a 7-0 victory with a full slate of players contributing to the final score. Jessica Wallace and Kirstie King notched two goals apiece in the win.

In the 18th minute of the match, Kelsey Russell collected a corner kick from Lainey Nicholson for an attempt on the goal. JWU's defense deflected the shot, but Meredith continued to pressure. Cassie Padilla found Russell open a short distance from the box to open the scoring for the Avenging Angels.

With less than four minutes in the first period, Jessica Wallace ran the ball into the goal to extend Meredith's lead to two. One minute later Katie Quinn found Hannah Elvington on a cross, and King finished off a pass from Erin Cooke to give the Angels a four-point lead heading into the break.

Meredith controlled the offense completely in the second period, allowing no offensive threats from the Wildcats. And the Avenging Angels continued to press. At 52:42 Wallace found her way around Johnson & Wales second keeper of the match, to score her second goal on the night.

With the clock ticking down, rookie Izzy Webb collected a free kick from King to score her first collegiate goal at 78:11. And with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, King dribbled down field with help from Molly Thomas and Amelie Gillies. King would eventually wind her way around the defense to run the ball into the goal to finish off the Wildcats for good.

Jaisa Loch recorded her sixth win on the season playing in-goal 74:04 with one stop. Madison Gladwell entered in the 16th minute to close out the win. JWU's Kylie Priddy posted her second loss on the season playing the first 30 minutes for the Wildcats. Jordann Kinkin entered at the half to record five saves in the loss.

The Avenging Angels enjoy a weekend away from competition and return to the field next Wednesday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is slated for a 7 p.m. start at WakeMed Soccer Park with live stats available HERE.
