FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Saturday night's overtime draw at Methodist University leaves the Meredith College soccer Angels in sixth place in USA South East Division standings at the close of the regular season. Since Pfeiffer remains ineligible for postseason play while still in transition to Division III, the East fifth-seed Avenging Angels travel to Averett Wednesday, Oct. 24, to face off with the East Division's fourth-seed Cougars.

Meredith's rookie goalie Miranda Lutz recorded 18 saves in tonight's match. With 25 shots from the Monarchs, the Angels defense battled throughout the 110 minutes to hold on for the tie. MU notched nine corner attempts to just one from the Avenging Angels to keep the threat alive throughout the contest.

Katie Carter led Meredith with two shots on goal. Rookie Annah Bishop recorded the only first-half attempt for the Angels, while both of Carter's along with a shot from Molly Thomas posted in the second frame. Ansley Bucknam launched her attempt in the 99th minute during the first overtime segment, and Morgan Tingen's shot was blocked just before the buzzer.

Lillian Fox's shot in the second overtime period was one-of-six saves by MU goalie Maggie Hunt. Monarch goalie Catie Gaughan started the match for MU with one save in the first 45 minutes of play.

The winner of the Meredith-Averett round one tournament pairing will advance to second round action versus the West Division's top-seeded Maryville Scots Saturday, Oct. 27. Final tournament seedings will be announced Monday once the West Division concludes regular season play.
