Rocky Mount, N.C. -- The Meredith College tennis team opened the USA South schedule Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to the host N.C. Wesleyan Bishops.

Logan King and Alexandra Cheney earned two points at no. 3 doubles, and Gillian Emerson and Elizabeth Johnson picked up a game versus Florencia Sorrentino and Louise Hovhammer at no. 1.

Emerson battled in a hard fought match at the top singles spot versus Sorrentino and managed three games in set one before fading 6-1 in the second. At no. 4 singles, Emily Wilkinson captured three games at no. 4 singles, and Johnson scored one game apiece at no. 3. Jacqueline Benton collected the only other game for the Avenging Angels, as the Bishops finished off the sweep.

Meredith returns to their home courts this weekend for a three-match series beginning with Southern Virginia Friday at 2:00 p.m.
