Tennis Celebrates Benton's Career with 7-2 Victory Over Pacers

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College tennis squad celebrated the four-year career of senior Jacqueline Benton just prior to Friday's USA South pairing with William Peace. The Avenging Angels downed Peace 7-2 for the win to close out the conference schedule.

Benton and Elizabeth Johnson finished off Pacers Alex Young and Manessah Fox 8-3 on court one, while Logan King and Alexandra Cheney knocked off their opponents on two.

In singles play Benton stepped up to play no. 1 and downed Young 6-2, 6-0. Johnson dropped one point to Fox, and the remaining three Avenging Angels swept their courts for the win.

The second match of today's scheduled doubleheader was postponed as rain began to fall at the conclusion of the conference pairing. Meredith is slated for a non-conference match at N.C. Central University Wednesday, April 11, before heading to LaGrange for the USA South Conference Tournament.
