Soccer Tames Monarchs on Senior Night, 3-2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A goal in the 81st minute by freshman Morgan Thomas complete the comeback for the Avenging Angels as they take down visiting Methodist, 3-2, on Senior Night. Thomas finished a ball in front of the net off of a corner kick by fellow freshman Mia Slaunwhite.

Down 2-1 at halftime, Meredith (6-11, 5-3 USA South) tied the game in the 70th minute when Slaunwhite found the back of the net from distance to tie the game, 2-2. 

Methodist (7-6-1, 4-3-1) opened the scoring in the 17th minute with Bella Nunu finding the back of the net, before Meredith answered back nine minutes later when junior Amelie Gillies finished a feed from freshmen Oliva Mason. The Monarchs would regain the lead, 2-1, when Miranda Gay scored off of an assist from Kiley Way.

Miranda Lutz made seven saves for the Avenging Angels, while Mary Newman and Maggie Hunt combined for seven saves for Monarchs.

Meredith opens the USA South tournament at home Wednesday, October 30th, at 6 p.m. versus N.C. Wesleyan.
